Dr. John Manolukas, DVM, PhD - Managing Veterinarian

Dr. Manolukas is originally from Youngstown, Ohio. Between High School and College, he spent 9 months in Greece getting touch with his ethnic roots. After getting a BA from Hiram College in NE Ohio, he enrolled in The Ohio State University, College of Medicine, department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and after 3 years, received his PhD.

Continuing at Ohio State University, he entered veterinary school, and graduated in 1991. He practiced for 10 years in the Youngstown area treating birds, reptiles, amphibians, ferrets, small mammals, wildlife (in conjunction with the local game warden) and taught canine obedience. Oh yeah, he also saw dogs and cats.

In 2001 he moved to Toledo and became an owner in Holly Farms Animal Care Center. He served on several committees at the Toledo Zoo and even worked as a relief vet on occasions.

He is active in church and music, has taught violin and piano and is working hard at learning to be a chanter in the Greek Orthodox Church. Dr. Manolukas served as the Ask the Vet for the National Ragdoll magazine. He recently had to say goodbye to his 20 year old cat Indira who graciously let him live in her house. He felt the call of the Carolina coast and set his sights on joining his relatives in Wilmington. Along the way he practiced for 11 months in Fayetteville, had his nephew join him and adopted his cat “Colonel Panthro B.” Finally, he has made it to Wilmington and couldn’t be happier, though he misses his God-Dog Duncan (Dunk the Punk). He has a passion for practicing high quality medicine and surgery and a special interest in cardiology, ultrasonography and echocardiology.

She has both furry and feathered family members which include seven dogs, eleven cats, Samson the macaw, and Brandy, the little Arab pony. Dr. Odom's professional interests encompass the areas of internal medicine, endocrine disease, dermatology, and ophthalmology.
